Mount St. Charles Fine Arts Summer Camp is a two-week, co-ed summer program. The Intermediate Camp is for boys and girls who are currently in grades 4 to 6. The Secondary Camp is for students who are currently in grades 7 to 9.
These programs will introduce young people to the fun and excitement of the Fine Arts. Campers create schedules of 6 daily classes, choosing from over 100 courses that include but are not limited to: art, drama, dance, and music as well as Archery, photography, Escape the room, Graphic design, and many more.
Camp dates are July 15 to July 26, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Tuition for the program is $370.00 (you may pay $185 to enroll and pay the balance TWO WEEKS BEFORE camp begins). Brochures will be mailed out Monday, April 23.
2019 Camp Course Description
Archery/Rockwall: This course, taught by a Phys. Ed. Teacher and certified instructor, will introduce you to the exciting sport of archery. You’ll learn about safety, equipment, and shooting technique using our brand new, state of the art bows and arrows. You'll also get to try out your climbing skill on our state-of-the-art rockwall.
Band: Study advanced techniques for woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Rehearse & perform band music of composers from the Baroque period to the 20th century. A minimum of one year experience is required.
Broadway Bound: This class will help you improve your acting, singing, and dancing skills by having you study, rehearse, and perform a full scale musical. You will combine with two other classes to perform a show at the end of camp.
Checkmate! - For beginners as well as experienced players, this course will immerse you in the great game of chess. the course will help you learn the basics as well as advanced strategies of the "game of kings."
Cheerleading: whether you'd cheered before or want to explore this fun activity, you will have a great time in this class learning all about cheerleading, led by Brittany dickie, former patriots cheerleader captain and current partiots cheerleaders dance trainor.
Claymation: This class will utilize your skills in story-telling, art, and computers. Claymation is stop-motion animation done using a character, or characters, created out of clay. You’ll work alone and in groups to create your own short clay- animated videos.
computer animation: in this computer class you will learn to program your own interactive stories, games, and animations — and share your creations with fellow campers - think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively — essential skills for life in the 21st century.
cooking 101– This introduction to cooking class will make students familiar with and comfortable cooking, Student will create culinary delights alone and in teams, and creating spontaneous dishes using mystery ingredients. bon appetit!
Cross-stitch: Learn the basics of counted cross-stitch as you begin with a simple but beautiful bookmark and work your way up to a framed project that you will want to hang at your house when camp finishes.
digital graphics: a picture is worth a thousand words, and in this hands-on course You will learn to use photoshop to edit images for personal and school-based projects.
Escape the Room: Each day you are locked in a room and told a new scenario – and you have 45 minutes to escape! You will become totally removed from your current world and are focused on nothing but escape. The circumstances that are created bring about excitement, laughter and ample amounts of adrenaline and force you to manage yourself efficiently and effectively with others thus creating an amazing team building experience.
Experimental Art: Have you ever wondered what it looks like when you combine paint and glue together? Or what does it look like when you paint on top of weird surfaces like tin foil and cling wrap? What kind of reaction does sharpie make when you combine it with rubbing alcohol? Discover how in this fun and creative art class where you get to be both the artist and the scientist!
Friendship Bracelets: We provide the materials and show you the patterns, - you bring the love! Originally, these colorful bands were invented by Indians in Central and South America. According to tradition, you tie a bracelet onto the wrist of a friend who may wish for something at that moment. The bracelet should be worn until it is totally worn-out and falls off by itself, at which moment the wish is supposed to come true!
Geocaching: is modern-day treasure hunting. You will use the GPS on your phone to hunt for items that have been hidden on campus. Have a blast outdoors and use problem-solving skills to be the first to find the cache! NOTE: Students need their own cell phone or other GPS device for this class.
Grrl Power: This class aims to increase girls’ confidence, self-esteem, and awareness by teaching about inner and outer beauty. You’ll learn about healthy living (healthy recipes for things like smoothies and "brain food"), taking care of your skin, hair, nails, body, mind, ", making your own body and face scrubs, doing nails and hair… and more!
Handbells: So you always wanted to play in the bell choir -here is your chance. This class is designed to introduce students to the art of English Handbell Ringing. Learn basic techniques and you will quickly be performing music on a three octave set of Malmark handchimes and a beautiful five octave set of Malmark handbells.
Harry Potter Challenge: Welcome to Hogwarts! Everyone is welcome , even muggles! Get ready to enter the world of Harry Potter – we’ll play quidditch, brew potions, and compete in the Triwizard Tournament as you try to win the House Cup!
Hip Hop Dance: Here’s your chance to dance like famous stars like Outkast. Learn the secrets of “Boy Band” success. Girls, learn to dance like Beyonce and others. No prior dance experience required. Dance to the hottest new songs heard of the radio and seen on MTV! This class is all about fun! Just think how impressed your friends will be when they see you at the next school dance!
Jazz Band/Improvisation: Here is your chance to play in a jazz band every day of the week! Explore the world of jazz as you play many classic jazz tunes and improve your skills as a soloist. Learn to blow some mean licks on a blues chorus.
Jazz Dance: This innovative, cutting edge and high-energy class is designed for the dancer with at least 1 year of dance experience. Experience movement like you never have before while learning the newest leaps, turns and choreography sure to impress anyone. This fast paced dance class will expose the dancer to various styles of jazz with emphasis on technique and style.
Karaoke: Love to sing in the shower? Enjoy imitating your favorite singing stars? Get a kick out of singing with friends? This new course will allow you to show off your pipes. In the second week we'll do our own "the voice"!
Kumihimo Braidmaking; Kumihimo is the Japanese art of braid-making (made popular by the samurai). In this course you learn to use a Japanese braiding board to create intricate braids as art works, decorations, bracelets, belts and gifts.
Knitwits: Knitting is becoming popular with people of all ages. Find out why in this new course that will introduce you to this fun and relaxing activity.
Magic: You will amaze your family and friends with the tricks you learn in this introduction to street magic. You’ll learn slight-of-hand, mind-reading, and card tricks that will make you the life of the party!
Mind Games: In this course you’ll learn and compete in a variety of interactive group games that will test your knowledge of trivia, improve acting, drawing, and logic. You’ll play group games such as Cranium, Apples to Apples, Cadoo, and others.
Minute to Win It: This new course based on the popular TV game show will have you competing individually and in teams. You’ll be given physical and intellectual challenges and compete for the title of MTNI Champ and prizes.
MTV Video: This new class calls upon your love of music and your imagination in bringing a song to life in a visual manner. You will choose your own song and work in pairs in groups to create and film your own music videos.
Multimedia Art: In this course you will draw, paint, build, and assemble works of art with a variety of materials and in a variety of dimensions.
Myths and Legends: In this new course you’ll learn the main stories of the Norse gods and discussing/showing their impact on the modern world via: movie clips (i.e. Thor/The Avengers, The Mask, etc.), comic books and graphic novels (Marvel, Neil Gaiman’s Sandman), artwork (Henri Fuseli, Arthur Rackham), and literature (Lord of the Rings).
paper crafting: Bring your scrapbooking and card-making skills to the next level with this course that features a variety of paper-based activities, including stamping, die-cutting, and more.
Party Games: Our break-time party games were so popular that we decided to create this course. You’ll play Charades, Train Wreck, Blind Man’s Bluff, Ultimate Simon Says, Twenty Questions, and many more.
Personalized Art: Why leave your walls. room, or locker blank and boring or full of generic decorations, when you can make personalized art that holds meaning? create beautifully designed art for a range of occasions and sentiments so you can show off what really matters to you.
Pinterest: If you enjoy the kinds of unique DIY crafts found on Pinterest, you will love this new course. Each day campers will work on making classic Pinterest crafts such as painting on small canvases, motivational cork boards, decorative mason jars, and many more.
Quilting: You don’t have to be old and gray to enjoy the artistic and relaxing craft of quilting. This course will introduce you to the basics of quilting and get you started making your own colorful creations.
Rockestra!: This course, intended for musicians with at least 2 years experience on their instruments, will make you a part of the rock-jazz-ska fusion band we call Rockestra. Whatever you play, guitar, bass, drums, brass, piano, or anything else you’ll participate in jam sessions, learn some cool versions of popular songs, and perform for campers and family members in a show-stopping Rockestra number at our closing exhibitions.
science x-ploration: This hands-on, Science-Olympiad style course features fun, low-pressure activities including things like egg drop, gliders, bridge building, pasta towers, etc.
Scrapbooking: Get in on the latest craft craze – scrapbooking! Design your own book of personal and summer camp memories. You’ll learn to use various crafting tools and art media to create a colorful and meaningful book that will preserve your good times with family and friends.
short films: even movie lovers are often unfamiliar with this amazing genre of films that range from one minute to a half-hour. In class you will be exposed and discuss many kinds of short films - comedies, dramas, and animated movies.
Steel Drums: Yo, mon! In this class you’ll learn to play steel drums of various sizes and tones to create a percussion ensemble and perform for friends and family.situational awareness
strategy Games: internal decision free style You will have "old school" fun in playing games that require internal-decision free-style thinking, and situational awareness.
Tennis: Take this course and play tennis on our beautiful new courts! We are thrilled to be able to offer this course to beginners and experienced players alike (Note: You may use your own racquet or one of ours).
The Sing-Off: Just like the hit TV show! This course will introduce you to a cappella singing. We’ll teach you to sing in a variety of styles and time periods, from do-wop and Beach Boys to barbershop quartet, and boy and girl band harmonies like N’Sync and Destiny’s Child, and your group will compete in front of judges in our second annual Sing-Off!
Theater Games: Everybody’s favorite drama activities are ice-breaking, role-playing games, - and in this new course, you’ll learn all of the most fun ones as you improve your acting, improve and miming skills.
Tied in Knots: To be or knot to be – that is the question – and the answer is this new craft that in which you will create knotted pillows, wreaths, beaded t-shirts and other items using fabric and beads.
Uke Can Do It! This introductory class is designed to get students playing the ukulele right away. The ukulele is a great instrument for students who have no experience and is easier to handle then a guitar. This class is also a fun addition for any guitar player. Ukulele class has an emphasis on technique, music reading, chord symbols, scales, and ensemble performance.
Whose Line is it Anyway?:This popular course is based on everyone’s favorite comedy improve show. You’ll learn all the best games and skits in this fast-paced group and individual comedy course. You could be the next Ryan, Colin, or Wayne.
